As a class complete the following activity to explore where all the world’s fresh water is and why that is important to agriculture.

  1. Display a map of the world and ask students, “Which countries have the least available fresh water?”
  2. Allow students to offer their guesses and proceed to ask, “Which countries have the most available fresh water?”
  3. Discuss reasons why.
  4. Across the globe not everyone has access to a reliable fresh water source – explore how this impacts quality of life
  5. Discuss factors that impact water availability and daily water use per person (estimate litres or gallons by country).
