What is precision farming?

Precision agriculture is an approach to farm management that uses information technology to ensure that the crops and soil receive exactly what they need for optimum health and productivity. This reduces waste of seed, fuel, fertilizer and pesticides.

Computers help farmers

Just like calculators make mathematics easier and more accurate, computers make grain farming easier and more accurate. For example, instead of estimating which parts of a field are the most productive, the use of mapping technology can show farmers exactly how much different parts of the field yield. In turn, this helps the farmers decide if they need to adjust the seeding rate or amount of fertilizer in the next year.
