Plant Nutrient Deficiencies (Gr. 9-12)

Students will discover that just like humans, plants also need a balance of essential nutrients to be healthy. Students will also diagnose plant nutrient deficiencies, define fertilizers as a source of plant nutrients, and appreciate that fertilizers help to restore a healthy balance of soil nutrients for crops. Developed by National Ag in the Classroom, this grade 9-12 resource is linked to curriculum outcomes.

Plant Nutrient Deficiencies (Gr. 6-8)

In this lesson, students learn about fertilizers and their role in plant nutrition. Students will also learn about the need to replenish nutrient balance in agricultural soils, and discuss how people and crops can suffer from nutrient deficiencies. Developed by National Ag in the Classroom, this grade 6-8 resource is linked to curriculum outcomes.

Learn, Protect, and Promote Water!

In this hands on activity, students demonstrate the water cycle and learn the potential for our water supply to become contaminated. Learning outcomes include: water sources, water pollution, and water protection. Developed by National Ag in the Classroom, this grade 6-8 resource is linked to curriculum outcomes.

Bee on flower pollinators resource

Conserving Bumble Bees

Through a case study approach, this lesson introduces the importance of bumble bees and other pollinators. Students will examine population surveys and use the scientific method to discuss possible causes for the decline of  pollinators. Students will then determine which strategies are most successful in attracting and supporting bumble bee populations. Developed by National Ag in the Classroom, this grade 9-12 resource is linked to curriculum outcomes.

Blue’s the Clue: Souring Milk for Science

This lab introduces students to the effect temperature has on reducing and controlling the growth of bacteria. Students will use conventionally pasteurized and ultra-high-temperature (UHT) milk to observe how different temperatures (hot, room temperature, cool, and freezing) affect the growth of spoilage bacteria. They will also learn about the importance of pasteurization in keeping food safe.  Developed by National Ag in the Classroom, this grade 6-8 resource is linked to curriculum outcomes.
